When to Upgrade?

When to Upgrade?

You probably heard the old saying ‚”If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”. Well I want to dispute that saying as there are some very good reasons to upgrade your current O/S or Hardware.

I work with a lot of clients and friends who are always asking me should I upgrade. They say I really feel comfortable with my current version of this or that and should I upgrade? To answer that question we need to examine what is being upgraded and why?

Word Press 3.0 and other things

Word Press 3.0 and other things

Over the past couple days Word Press has announce a much anticipated upgrade to version 3.0 with thousands of bug fixes. This update also includes among other things, an attractive and modern-looking default theme and a bulk plug-in, theme, and installation updater.

For those that prefer to write blogs, I admit this is one of the best pure blogging platforms available. I started with WordPress over 5 years ago and I can tell you it is a lot easier to setup and use today then it was back then. Of course I did not know as much about PHP or CSS as I do now so I have to include that in my self taught WP education.

Preparing for K2 - Update

Preparing for K2 - Update
There are a lot of changes brewing here at Xanluna! For the past couple months we have been building a new foundation for Xanluna! and this includes finally the integration with K2.

For those not familiar with K2 it’s purpose is adding CCK functionality where non existed before. Currently all Joomla! versions excluding the new 1.6 due out next year only support a two level category structure. This is built on Sections and Categories. This does not leave much room for building multi-tier sites that holds many categories and children. With CCK you can have an infintesible number of categories including nested categories within nested categories. Virtually unlimited!

The problem is Xanluna! has become category clogged so to speak with the merger of Documentum 4 Dummies and in order to make both the sites work as one required playing a lot of games with the category structure. Not to mention we could not cross reference multiple categories where needed when one article might affect different categories.

Albert Einstein

The fairest thing we can experience is the mysterious.

It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and science.

He who knows it not and can no longer wonder, no longer feels amazement, is as good as dead, a snuffed-out candle.

devmanDa Vinci Vitruvian Man The Vitruvian Man is a world-renowned drawing created by Leonardo da Vinci around the year 1487. It is accompanied by notes based on the work of the famed architect, Vitruvius Pollio. The drawing, which is in pen and ink on paper, depicts a male figure in two superimposed positions with his arms and legs apart and simultaneously inscribed in a circle and square.
